LGBTQA+ Lecture on Youth Bullying and Suicide Risk

Robert S. Salem, clinical professor of law in the UT College of Law, presented on contemporary issues facing LGBTQ youth, including bullying and suicide risk. While there has been significant progress in terms of awareness and policy in recent years, LGBTQ youth continue to face harassment and discrimination at unacceptable levels, leading to short- and long-term consequences. The lecture will address the current challenges involving LGBTQ youth, some legal implications and how we can help provide a safer and more nurturing environment for our youth.

Analese Alvarez, executive director of Equality Toledo and Kristin Blochowski, Assistant Professor of Sociology and Justice Studies at Lourdes University, also presented during the lecture.
